The Miramichi Strikes Back (Rski XXIV)

Saturday, August 5

After getting some coffee at the motel restaurant, we had some of our home made breakfast.

We had a bagel with nutella and/or jam, accompanied by a nice fruit juice and followed by some fruit.

We headed into town...and saw some interesting things along the way:

That's pretty much all of downtown Miramichi.

Artsy...SLR version also available.

Also available on the trailer trash compilation...how did that even happen? In any case, look at me! I'm standing in the mayor's spot!

Class.

More of the 'chi. In case you were wondering why I keep referring to it as "The Miramichi" it's because NB is somewhat francophone and francophones do that with town names, they say "le" or "la" in front of it. And I think it makes it sound more important.

Entrance to Ritchie's Wharf.

Stubby light house as we wait for the boat to the island...that's right, we love islands. We ate lunch at a restaurant on the wharf which was really good. Inside the lighthouse is tourist information which didn't open at noon like it was supposed to, in fact it didn't open until well past 1:00, we were boarding the boat when Alix came back with tickets. Little towns.. huh.

On the boat..and trying not to be sick.

It was a beautiful day.

So we stop off on the other side of the river to pick up more people to take them over to the island for the tour...a few people in costume board and we quickly realise that they were the same people from the headless nun tour the night before!

The island was nice. Beaubear Island has a long, rich history, which I will spare you, but look it up if you're interested.

There was a tree going on the branch of another tree.

Our tour guides. The lumberjack was Ichabod Crane the night before.

The tour was nice and informative...we then took the boat across the river and got off in hopes of checking out the other side of the river. We began walking towards downtown on that side of town, but at this point, the gravol was kicking in and I was getting super sleepy. And so, we called a cab, which was like a 20 minute cab ride to town, so it was probably a good idea we got a ride. He dropped us off somewhere and we began to wander around. We got some Timmy's and sat on a bench and took in the sights...then we wandered the few stores that were open, stupid construction.

We headed towards the water to see the view...there was a nice park down there, where:

I promptly fell asleep...dangerously close to a seagull.

I was woken up by some random guy talking to us. He was quite the character, kept talking and talking, weirded us out a bit. Sure he was being friendly but the things he mentioned. There was something off about him. Him and his friend left shortly after we repeatedly declined a ride across the river. I'm always up for strange things but they seemed shady.

We had dinner at a chinese restaurant, which was cool. Then we walked across the street to the taxi stand to catch a cab back to the motel.

Next to the taxi stand.

We hung at the motel for a while before heading back to town. We considered checking out the nightlife.

Sunset.

Sunflowers and electricity.

We wandered around downtown and checked out as many bars as we could but nothing seemed not shady...I guess locals freak me out. Instead we got some ice cream and headed to the town square where things really picked up.

I took off with Alix's flip flop. She was not pleased.

Then I chucked it.

And it floated away.

Partner in crime.

This was hilarious at the time.

After that, we went back to that bar where we had dinner the night before. It was empty but there was a guy singing good tunes and we were getting checked out by old guys. It was fantastic. After a while, we headed out and offended the singer...and off to bed.
