Canada Day (Rski XIII)

This post will be broken up a bit because well I don't want to wreck computers again. Each person on the trip with a digi took upwards of 500 photos, which means 100+ pics per day...which means I have 100 photos to show you. Sit down, you're in it for the long haul.

We woke up to a wonderful day in Gaspé. Our motel actually looked pretty nice...enough to show you.

The view of Gaspé from the motel.

After our breakfast of bread and stolen jam and butter...we headed to the Sanctuaire something or other.

In the heart of Gaspé or something. It was a super small town.

After some minimal driving, we got there.

None of us could remember specifically why we chose to go there, but something about a garden. It was closed on that particular day, so we couldn't get a tour.

We began to trespass..err wander up the hill.

A weird mantel boasting the last supper. Bonus points for getting someone's hand in taking another digital photo. Guesses?

Something ressembling an outhouse except with some religious figure.

There was a garden with religious statues...but as I got near I could feel the mosquitos prepping, so I headed back to the bottom.

Our next stop was the Micmac village, we drove back towards town and couldn't find it and drove all the way back, before we realised it was right NEXT DOOR to the sanctuary, except their sign didn't say exactly what the tour guide said. And the sign was small. Once we got in, they made us watch a 20 minute video about how they recreated the village. Except, it wasn't done in a remotely traditional way and it was done by 2 white men in plaid shirts.
Welcome to:

"Gespeg" is where the name Gaspé is derived from.

Then they served us some delicious bread.

How a Micmac (aka teepee) is supposed to look.

Dishes and such.

The deck on the upper floor of the museum.

The flippin' sanctuary.

From the deck:

See they don't hate Canada so much in Quebec.

Artsy? Yeah I didn't think so.

The village was also up a slight incline.

Two Ontarioians, a Manitobian and a Micmac.

Ever wonder what's inside a Micmac?

Shit, I knew I forgot to turn off the stove.

Gross thing sliding out of the grass.

Beautiful Micmac.

Mushroom. This becomes a recurring theme later.

Lunch.

Break. (Kit and Kollene).

Neat-o shad-o.
