The Muppets Take Manhattan
Thursday, March 1
Second day in NYC...we wake up to meet our Brazilian supermodel roommates in full swing. Whatever that means.
We head back to our favourite breakfast place - where the guy thought we were British (but, why?). We hop on the subway and hope to not get lost at all...and make our way down to Battery Park again.
Walking through another part of the park..
I felt very threatened.
Waiting in line to purchase tickets to visit Lady Liberty.
After lots and lots of security and belt removals...and waiting in lines.
Finally, we get on the boat.
The ferry got going... I wanted to throw up a little.
Here are copious amounts of photographs chronicling our journey across the Hudson RIVER (not bay..)
I can almost touch her. I kind of want to.
May I just say that I love Ann.
This is why I love Ann.. most unnattractive photo in this series.
There she is.
HAHAHHA. Hilarious. I love the people taking a photo of themselves.
Ashley and Karen being one of the crowd.
Oh yeah, who's being artsy. New Jersey and Manhattan.
Ladies and gentlemen, we've landed on Liberty Island
There was a bit of a crunch for time... but we still opted to take the tour. They'd asked us if we'd been there before, I said "yes, when I was five." I actually have a rather vivid memory of the whole thing. Anyway, the tourguide responded, "oh yeah, I remember you." Hilarious, thank you.
Getting into the Statue of Liberty requires additional security measures, so we had to go shove our stuff in a locker and remove our belts again. We are now certified strippers.
And play with stuff in the gift shop, of course.
The original flame.
The museum and all the stuff that led up to her construction.
I snapped this photo right after this happened...
Ann, you are hilarious.
She has nice feet.
Huge even. Karen caught in a scandalous pose.
Then we saw her and we just couldn't help ourselves.
It appears that I'm getting shoved out and Karen is getting sucked in.
At this point we'd given up on the tour and just ran through the museum.
Looking up Lady Liberty's dress.
And again, with better lighting.
Then, we went ouside and walked around her feet.
Karen doing her only pose.
Brooklyn Bridge?
We're such an awesome bunch.
Aww yah. I just don't know what to comment anymore.
Manhattan.
We're just so awesome, it hurts. Love the camera around my neck.
After that we ran down to catch the ferry to Ellis Island.
Ellis Island has the Immigration Museum, which I'd heard good things about.
Maybe we were tired, maybe we're hard to impress, but we didn't find it interesting in the least.
This is to show immigration trends.
Photo op.
Linguistics Tree!!! It has examples of words we've adapted from other languages into English.
They could have used a dictionary...it's mensch. Oy. I was thoroughly disappointed with lack of accuracy.
Another photo op. Baby missed her SLR.
"Pretend like you're pledging to America."
Then we got hungry and decided to scrap the rest of the museum in hopes of getting some food. The food line was huuuge. So we went to the snack stand right next to it. The guy seemed to want to close up early and offered us 2-for-1 bananas, and a giantic cookie for really cheap. Awesome.
There's a reason I got macro on my camera.
After that we went shopping for a while...and split up into two teams, Ann and Ashley versus Karen and Hana.
Ann and Ashley went into a cathedral.
Karen and I wandered around aimlessly with little intention of really buying anything. We met up around 8:00ish probably to grab some dinner at TJ Baxter.
Ashley at the Rockfellar Center.
But then we went up the Empire State Building...
It's quite an expensive thing to see, but it was nice.
It was really pretty though... pretty enough that..
Karen and Ann.. they
had some special feelings come over each other.
Awww.... yeah!
Eventually I got it.
It was super, super cold up there. And windy.
Group! Apparently "smile" means nothing to me and also, I am the devil... oh yeah and check out Karen's scarf pubes!
Apparently I was jealous of Karen and Ann.
So Karen tried to make me feel better. Argh open eyes, Hana! C'mooon.
We made our way downstairs after seeing ourselves as twelve year old boys, it was kind of frightening. When we got the bottom it was pouring rain, so we ran half a block to Starbuck's and sat there hoping the rain would let up. It did not, but after many tries, Ann snagged us a cab back to ISC. Good night folks.
